IN DESIGN WORKSHOP

In Design workshop

When opening document, be sure to set in mm, older versions use Pica’s.
Use the ‘options’ settings, to help you decide you print layout, this can help you divide your page into columns if needed. Guttering (space between columns),  margins (white space around page) and bleed, (when working to print, it leaves space to trim, giving you ‘trim’ marks).  Slug tool not particularly necessary. Facing pages tick box important – Use if what you produce is going to take the form of a book (inside of book, 2 pages next to one another are facing pages).

Bleed guide (red), extend work to this line.

File -> document setup -> if I need more pages, or to change page size, to add bleed.

Type tool -> drag to use

Type -> Fill with placeholder text -> dummy type, to make text choices in regard to font, size and other formatting options.

Overflow indicator -> click -> creates new text frame with missing text

‘W’ key from layout mode -> preview mode -> Gives accurate representation of how page will look.

In design for layout, combining images, type. Not for making anything new. To bring things from Photoshop and Illustrator.

- Photoshop

Photoshop images don’t need to be flattened to be inserted. Need to be saved as Tiff or Photoshop file to be able to import. Never use Jpeg, quality is poor.

CMYK to print
Resolution 300dpi

- Illustrator
-       File format – AI (Illustrator)
-       Colour – CMYK

Saving In Design Document

Rectangle tool for image, cross within box. Place image within frame

Image quality will be poor in appearance, but when it comes to printing the quality will be restored.

Applying colour
Using swatches - Recommended
Same as photoshop/Illustrator when using stroke and fill
