COMMUNICATION IS A VIRUS - Response to crit

In response to the crit, we realised that our posters arn't really motivating in a direct sense, just simply aesthetically 'pretty'. So we decided that including the primary research of when we asked our class, what they needed motivating to do, would be a good idea. To hold the statement, and answers within our designs. As many were similar we had already categorised them into 5 areas:

  • Healthy eating - Claudia
  • Fitness - Kirsty
  • Language - Steph
  • Specifics - Matt
  • To explore more and be adventurous - Mitch

In some convenience, there are 5 members in our group so each of us got a category to work with. Deciding to deal with the problem, and solution. This would be our form of continuity in our design formatting. Also to trigger audience in humbling approach, to make them think in a different way.

We also felt it was time to take a step foward to our final product. To start applying designs to objects within context of our given catergoy. For instance, fitness related designs could be placed on sports bags, bottles and being more adventurous, sprayed onto a bike frame, as an instance.

We decided on our 3 colours to use:

Turquoise :
C: 78
M: 19
Y: 16
K: 0
3135C - SOLID COATED

Brown:
C: 59
M: 64
Y: 72
K: 65
BLACK 4C - SOLID COATED

Sepia:
C: 6
M: 11
Y: 28
K: 0
7506C - SOLID COATED

By choosing our pantones at this stage meant our designs would be consistant.

We also decided on scale of 2:1, a measurement of 198 x 420mm

Here our my results in relation to language using chosen colour palette:

Some plans for designs

The scannings

Each of which were hand rendered, created using existing fonts within Illustrator.
Yes it was very tedious drawing for several hours!

A drawing I'm very proud of. I decided to take a 'perfectionist' approach to hand rendering type, using a ruler when it came to spacing, layout and size of font. Being sure it was exactly centred and elements of my text were of the same size.

The colour palette isn't quite accurate here. For some bizarre reason it's come out in a green tone, as like the design below. These haven't been changed to the correct scaling yet.

I really like these designs, Although some of them aren rather wonky, but can be changed easily enough.

As noted by a friend, this can be read in two different ways, suggesting I should adapt the colours to avoid viewers doing so.

Double sided - showing english to spanish translation

The spanish

The english

Not too sure on this design. A double sided poster wouldn't quite work.

This design I feel is more appropriate.

Taking a step back from hand rendering and rolling on into illustrator.
Using quotes and phrases from the feedback given by students, I have reacted on what was said on the crit. I am yet to provide further information on where and how to learn a new language.

I really, really, really like this design. Even though I have a love for hand rendered type, I do favour this design out of all.

As a group we decided we needed a consistent logo to use throughout our designs, which needed to relate some what to the idea of 'giving more to yourself'. We each decided to come up with some design idea's. Here they are:

Mine:

Matt seems to have a 'nack' for designing logo's:

We decided on the above logo, felt it fitting to each of our designs, using all three of the chosen colours. It is also very simple, and together we liked it the best.

Kirsty's designs:

Kirsty's designs, applied to her posters (which now work to 2:1 scaling and restricted colour palette)

Me and Kirsty found our designs similar in that we approached it in using hand rendered type. i really like her designs, and we did ask each others opinions about our designs a lot, which `i feel is important when working within a group.

Some designs Claudia has produced in regard to new colour Palette

Mitch's posters now using new colour palette
