Top ten things - Assessed learning outcomes - Peer feedback

" Top ten - Consistant style with appropriate tone, explored through the visuals; positive, bright and fun! Some issues with sound settings.
The use of one logo at the end is a good use of branding, ties the programme with the channel.
Silent movie - Clear representations of the words. Good visual language skills communicated through the 4d media."

"A lot of research done. (you seem organised). Title sequence - Audio levels too low at the beginning - don't put the date and time on. Audio too quiet on ident 1 and 2. Nice consistency in design - mix between textures and vector - good experimental. Good variety idents of techniques.
Really good imagery and choice of music. A lot of different effects used. Good packaging."

Image - Eye chart feed back

After testing my eye chart 20ft away, I realised it was successful. Each image was legible and I gained some really positive feedback. My approach in hand rendering my piece was liked by several people. The only improvement I personally suggested was the pocket watches on the 2nd line, they weren't quite centred, I imagine aesthetically it would work better, but other than that I really enjoyed this project.

Top ten things - Final crit

I was very nervous about attending this crit, feeling I really haden't done enough in the time given, due to me struggling with software, direction and having a last minute change of idea. After seeing everyones work it was reassuring as many were at the same stage as me, and those in front, had produced some brilliant work which was an inspiration in itself.

Gaining feedback has REALLY helped me in pushing me in the right direction as I was rather lost before today. Many things were mentioned about the ident I had to show:

Strengths:

  • Great plans / storyboards
  • Distinct illustrative style
  • Textures
  • The design approach is working well, liking the textures and colour palette
Area's for improvement:
  • "Fire in the sky" to be more legible, too quick.
  • Consider clouds moving in the background
  • Get red juice to cover the same width of the coke.
  • Possibly change the glass to a cocktail glass to make it more obvious.
  • The name of the cocktail needs to either change position or move slower.
  • Dont really understand your storyboarding.
Considerations:
  • Find out the music they play in TGI fridays for inspiration for audio.
  • Possibly find 2 pieces of upbeat jazz music, could work well.
  • Change the day, time and date as it looks like its just been stuck there, possibly position on top of the hills.
  • Make sure you dont put all 'top ten mocktails' in the title sequence, or you'll give away the programme too much.
  • Possibly make the clouds move slowely.
  • Reconsider surroundings for other idents, make them more 'Mocktailly'
  • Colour is suitable too
  • Music = suitable got surroundings, e.g - birds, people chatting.

After being given the feedback I created a Action Plan for myself:
  • Animate clouds to move
  • Blog textures
  • Align text to hill - roll over time
  • Find music and apply
  • Illustrate cottage, trees
  • Begin creating title sequence - copy ident key frames
  • Research music / playlists in bars
  • Research places you drink cocktails
  • Change coke juice size to hide orange
  • 'Fire in the sky' change typeface to be more legible
  • Design DVD packaging

Image - Type as image - Feedback

Scales image - "Nice disjointed text, you have to really look to be able to read the content"

'Latte Factor' - Try printing straight onto stock, edit in photoshop to look crisp

'Secretly seeing' - Try a different background, to help communicate message.
try a key hole shape, arrange type around.
Look at Brians 3rd year work
Try using an image of a spectacle, the word 'seeing' magnified, shadowed.

Top ten things - Boards - Peer Feedback

Strengths:

-Board range of potential for images
- Good idea of where / what channel it will be shown on
- Strong idea of colour

Areas for improvement:
- Think broader about the styles of the film, perhaps look at using image and vectors

Considerations:
- Hand made is a good idea combining the two...
- Kinetic Type could make up all the mixes and it could turn into a cocktail
- Audio

Action plan:
- Look at audio - Carefully consider whats most appropriate for film
- Think about using vector and images together - Find examples
- Think about time of when it will be shown

Good is...? Group tutorial - Final crit

WRITE UP FEEDBACK

Lots and lots of sticky notes!

Suggestions made in regard to consistency with colour and typeface. I had made the mistake of not making it clear which products were final pieces and which were developments, so some comments made were irrelevant.

Board drafts, to gain feedback and show at the crit.

Good is...? - Progress crit - Feedback and response

 Peer feedback

- Lots of initial trial and error. Practical element put across well. - Want to see logo onto / in context as it may not work on different media / products.

- A lot of research. nice logo development; considerations to colour and style is nice. We like the houses.

- A lot of different methods put across in relation to print. Think about materials used, i.e recycled paper to keep the theme/concept of cheap going, truth to materials.

- A lot of work proposed - understand your good really well.

- Is the amount of work achieveable by hand in?

- A big amount of work, perhaps too much for the time needs? -----Laser cutter?

- Keep stocks in mind 'environmentally friendly'

- Create a thorough action plan

ACTION PLAN

Create an action plan of your own - to do lists AM / PM - There is a lot of work to do here and if your not organised it may fall apart - you could end up leaving something.

Book in digital print - TODAY! - Usually gets stacked around this time.

Get a plan - So much to do...so plan it and dont get stressed, you've done all the hard work.

Response to crit:

As soon as the crit was finished, I went and booked two slots within the digital dungeon!
Also came up with several to do lists, action plans etc.
I intend on looking at stock / substrate appropriate for my products (environmentally friendly)

My extensive action plan outlining everything I need to do hour by hour to meet the deadline. I have a crazy amount of work to do.
