So after Sarah had spoken to Fred, we have decided we're going to change the exhibition content, and the purpose. Fred said the content of the event, people already know, but the side of getting work for people to submit and exhibit was a good concept. It was suggested we focused on new type, rather than old, and the celebration of new type.
We are going to look at the top ten modern typefaces, looking at small Design Foundries, the typefaces and fonts they produce, which we will then display on a website for people to vote. People can access the vote through modern technologies such as Blackberry Barcode which people can swipe to access voting lines on the website, or an App which will be accessible on iphones. The top ten which win the vote will then be revealed and exhibited at the event, we will ask them to submit work which uses the winning typeface, and potentially for them to come in and do a talk about their work.
Another side to this event is people who produce Type as Image designs to submit work for the event, which will also be voted for online, in which the top ten will be revealed at the event.
It was also stated by Fred that it takes a long time, too long for people to submit work so it was suggested we proposed rather than actually held the event. This will make things a lot easier and cheaper on us regarding printing but there will be a lot more research to be done. We will need to make sure than typefaces we submit, there is printable material online to be mocked up into an exhibition space. Considering we're now proposing the event, we will be doing a lot of mocking up, so potentially, a lot of photography will need to be done of exhibitions space and work.
It seems like a much more focused idea so I'm quite happy for the change.
