After affects workshop 2

Temporal arrangement (timeline) - arrange things so different things happen at different moments in time) 
Spacial arrangement - Arrangement of elements with frame (composition)


Pixels used as dimensions - equivalent of page size
Pal 25 frames every second (stills)


Using photoshop and illustrator to create assets 


Photoshop > new file > resolution -72- > RGB > Units of measurements -Pixels- > size> - adapt to be appropriate- 


Presets: Use size > PAL D1 / DVWIDESCREEN SQUARE PIXEL

Outer >Safe actions zone - will be visible however video is presented 
Inside guide - Title safe zone, text to be kept within this box

Importing a file

Footage files occupy just one layer


All images used in document need to be kept in one folder to avoid losing any work

Can drag and drop asset into main window


To edit composition setting, inc background colour etc



Imported as composition due to the document having more than one layer
A file is created per layer. These files are rarely used, generally you use the composition folder.
Double click composition to open it > this opens a new composition all together.

Position keyframe 
You can add key frames to multiple layers
Select all layers
Press 'P'
Activate one key frame, it will be applied to all (all layers need to be selected)

Import file as 'retain layer sizes'
Means images keep anchor point
All layers can be selected to do the same movement / scaling etc




One an illustrator file goes into after affects, it turns into a pixilated image.
To keep vector qualities, we need to change settings. 
Check boxes 'swtcihes' next to layer name
Centre box between first 3 needs to be clicked to hold vector properties 
Diagonal line - quality switch for a layer
Change whole composition quality - resolution 

For animations to blur
3 circles tick box
Needs to be ticked on all layers


Adjustment layer
Any effects can be applied to it

Last tick box will make a layer 3D (cube shaped tick box)


File > Save
File > Collect files
Collects all layers into one save

Composition > Add to render que
Click 'lossless' change format to H264
Render
