D&AD Packaging Design Brief

Personal interest in the brief
I'm interesting in packaging alcoholic beverages
The target market is one I'm familiar with
It will be challenging
I can be creative as its 'open'
It will give me the chance to use illustration

Skills I hope to develop
This will give me the chance to improve my crafting skills
An opportunity to use Layout
An opportunity to use type
Its primarily print based
Branding and identity is needed

YCN Triumph brief

Personal interest in the brief
Theres an opportunity to produce work for a renowned brand
The product is something I'm interested in and use myself
Theres a good opportunity to use illustration
Theres the opportunity to use craft
Working within retail is something I want to do in the future

Skills I hope to develop
I will be able to improve my photography skills as the products produced will need photographing, to be mocked up digitally although 'in store'
Its a chance to work within promotion and point of sale
I will be able to develop my use of colour, having to research into the individual branding of Triumph and explore possibilities
With the time given, I will have to make informed decisions quickly to reach my deadline so it will almost force me into picking up this skill
I will have to use primarily digital design considering the scale and format of the deliverables

Brief
The good journey RSA brief

Personal interest in the brief
The idea of designing something for a busy and congested environment
The journey you pick is entirely open
Some interesting research can be conducted
Its something I would like to see myself
The idea of making people see commuting differently is of personal interest; changing peoples minds

Skills I hope to develop
Theres a lot of communication needed within this brief, not something I'm entirely confident with, this will give me the chance to work on this
For this brief, I imagine a lot of type will be needed to communicate your idea, developing my type skills
I think the print in relation to media and effectiveness will be challenged here
I could look at creating a buzz by using the web, creating a website which is something I'm interesting in doing, but haven't had the opportunity as of yet
Promotion will be a primary point, This will give me the chance to research into this and improve within this area

ISTD Fakery

Personal interest in the brief
Its something which humours me and I find interesting
I am aware there are plenty of ways to interpret the word 'fake'
Its open with it target market
Its open with its resolutions
I have my own idea of Fakery within female appearance and cosmetics

Skills I hope to develop
The brief has to show my typographic skills, this is something I haven't focused on before
Communication in regard to tone will be an important aspect, its something I will have to consider
There will be a range of ways to research which I will have to explore
I could possibly work with moving image, I enjoyed using this in a previous module but I will be able to explore more ways of using it in approaching my works and more options available
Logo and identity will be needed

http://www.thersa.org/projects/design/student-design-awards/rsa-student-design-awards-201112/postage-stamps
Postage Stamps

Personal interest in the brief
I would like to work at a different scale, in this case, tiny
I like the idea of travel around stamps, how far a stamp can travel
Its something I've not tried before
I like the aesthetics of stamps
Its a context which has a lot of history

Skills I hope to develop
There will be a lot of available research as theres a lot of history, within this brief I will have to gain research organisation skills
The presentation of the stamps as a series will be an important aspect as to how well the product is communicated, these are two skills I need to improve so hopefully would do so conducting this brief
Type will have to be considered, having very little space and content to work with will be challenging
This brief will include an aspect of editorial as the stamps will be placed within something
I will have to consider printing, finished especially as stamp are obviously stickers, and often hold a pearlescent quality

Creating your own brief

I have come to like two briefs more than the others, this being the ISTD Fakery brief and the D&AD Packaging Brief.

I like the idea of packaging things people consider 'fake', the idea of fake being a lose term. It could be something along the lines of cosmetics, or the idea of fakery as a social term such as a person buying a certain model of car to obtain what it connotes.

The brief:
To explore the meaning of 'Fakery' and falsehood. To create a product range exploring the idea of Fakery, and what it connotes. Think about what people / society think of / use / or act to hide, alter or chance their appearance, or other ways in which they can be considered deceiving.

Background / Considerations:
Consider what items you could package, what their meaning could be and how they could be perceived. There are physical products which can be deemed to make a person fake through aesthetics and appearance, such as fake tan, hair extensions and false nails. Alongside the social idea of fake, someone acting how they want to be seen by others. Consider advertising and promotion, how the idea of range can be explored alongside this.
What tone of voice do you want to communicate?
How far can you push it?
What stock would be most appropriate?
How would you best present / photograph products for boards?
How big is your 'range'?

Mandatory requirements:
To explore fakery.
To produce a packaging range of at least 5 of your chosen final products.
A body of broad research

Deliverables:
PDF boards submitted on a disc
Logo and brand development
Range of Final Packaging
Promotional Material
